Dieting is the ingesting food in a regulated way to achieve or keep a controlled weight. In most cases dieting is used in combination with physical exercise as a weight loss program for those who are overweight or obese or as a treatment during some gastrointestinal diseases. Some sportsmen, however, stick to a diet to gain weight (usually in the form of muscle). Diets can also be used to keep a stable body weight. Diets for achieving weight loss usually count four sub-categories: low-fat, low-carbohydrate, low-calorie, and very low calorie. An opinion exists that all calorie-reduced diet types results in equal weight loss irrespective of the attach importance to particular macronutrients.
